Spy Model 670 Portable Holiday Detector – Wet Sponge

The lightweight Model 670 is easy to use, featuring an electrode wand that inserts and secures effortlessly. It requires a direct connection from the ground cable to the conductive metal beneath the coating, as a trailing ground wire won’t work. For quicker inspections, an optional roller sponge electrode reduces operator fatigue. Powered by a single 9-volt alkaline battery in the handle, it offers long battery life under normal use. The unit operates at 67 volts DC, making it sensitive enough to detect pin-holes in coatings as thin as 1 mil. If a pin-hole is found, moisture from the sponge activates the signal horn. For coatings 1 to 10 mils thick, ordinary tap water can wet the sponge, while coatings from 11 to 20 mils require a non-sudsing wetting agent like Kodak Photo-flow R® to enhance moisture penetration.
